Project update

11 March 2026

Thank you to everyone who shared their input on the Arthur Street Improvements project. We appreciate the time and thoughtful feedback provided by residents, businesses, and community members. Based on community input and Township and Region Council directive, the project will be split into two phases.

Phase 1

Phase 1 work will focus on rehabilitating Arthur Street through the downtown core, from South Street East to Church Street in summer/fall 2026. The downtown core lanes will get resurfaced and otherwise remain unchanged, with no cycling lanes added and existing parking maintained.

This rehabilitation will include asphalt resurfacing of the roadway, replacement of existing sidewalks, removal of brick paving stones between South Street E. and Church Street, and upgrades to streetlighting. Phase 1 will not include the Arthur Street/Church Street intersection.

Details regarding construction staging, timing, and impacts are currently being finalized. Further updates to residents and business owners will be sent out with more specific details as construction approaches.

Phase 2

Phase 2 work will include reconstruction of the section of Arthur Street from Church Street to Kenning Place, including the Canagagigue Creek bridge replacement. Planning and design is proceeding with construction tentatively scheduled to start in 2028. Further details on the proposed design will be shared as this phase progresses.
