What is asset management?

Did you know that every day, Woolwich Township manages approximately $1.1 billion in infrastructure assets from roads, bridges and sidewalks to recreational facilities, sewers and more? These assets help us serve the community and add to the quality of life in Woolwich.

Like looking after a car – taking it for regular oil changes and maintenance – it’s our job to look after these assets so they continue to serve our community and meet our needs now and into the future. As assets age there are increased costs associated with the upkeep and eventual replacement of these assets. By investing in the maintenance and repair of assets at the right time, asset management can help increase the life and reduce the costs of assets over their life.

As required by the Province and with the help of the engagement results, the Township has completed an asset management plan in 2025 for all Township-owned assets that identifies level of service targets. This plan will help us gather important data and make good, predictable decisions related to how and when we operate, maintain, replace or repair our assets. The plan also helps us balance costs, risks and how we deliver services over the long-term. The 2025 Asset Management Plan Addendum was approved by Council in June 2025 and can be found on our website. The 2025 Asset Management Plan combined with the 2024 council-approved Asset Management Plan, form a fully realized asset management plan for the Township to guide infrastructure investment to meet strategic goals and support the long-term sustainability of the Township.

Our asset management plan is aligned with the Township of Woolwich's 2024-2034 Community Strategic Plan that centers around the "Play, Live, Work" model where we can bring the community together, expand recreation options, and support sustainable growth.

Together, we can ensure that the services you rely on - clean water, safe roads, efficient stormwater management, and more - continue to meet your needs and those of future generations.

What's next for Woolwich?

The Township will continue building internal capacity, improving asset condition data, integrating asset management into financial planning, and reporting annually on our progress starting in 2026.
