Shape the Future of Brubacher Green!
Brubacher Green is a small urban neighbourhood park that is actively used by the local community. The City is planning updates to this park to better support the function of the space for all park users. Consultants from SHIFT Landscape Architecture have been engaged to lead the redevelopment of this park including conceptual design, final design, and taking the project through to construction completion. Through the summer of 2021, the design team engaged with the public to understand how the park serves the community and to guide the design. As a starting point for discussion, two concepts were presented to show what was possible in the space. After hearing feedback in person and online, and looking at what is needed to bring the park up to current standards, a final, refined concept has been developed. Below, we are excited to reveal the final concept for Brubacher Green. Please review the plan along with an overview video, below. More information can also be found through the links on this page, including timelines for next steps, additional documents, and a summary of engagement input. Click image to open. |

Preliminary Concept 1: The Community Backyard
over 1 year agoCLOSED: We are no longer accepting contributions to this ideas board.Taking a cue from the surrounding residences and front porch culture in the neighbourhood, this concept includes a "porch" entry with bench seating, little library and message board, a small nature exploration area, painted games, stepping stones through planting areas, and concrete "deck" at grade with individual seating at the rear of the park. A small sand play area with toy storage is at the rear of the park.
Please note this is an example concept only and the final concept will be developed based on feedback from the community and what is possible in the park.

⬆️Camp Level Up⬆️almost 2 years agoWe are a social justice kids camp in Central Fredrick. We love this climber at HNA because it is great for climbing and for imaginary play.
And it reminds us to protect the environment.

Please don't destroy this park. It works so well as it is now (if you added back the trees that were taken down last year that would be great) Why do you want to add concrete and asphalt to a 'natural' space. These descriptions sound like they came from some who has a PhD in play, but has never actually witnessed children playing before.

Swings, slides are all things kids love but don't have at home! THis design has a lot of concrete which means toddlers would have to be watched much more closely as opposed to the current soft grounds which allow for more independent exploring.

Putting concrete in a park is insane. You talk about liability issues with kids falling on toys off play structures. What happens when they fall on cement in a space that is supposed to be safe. This park is so unique and well loved as it give every age the ability to play. Whether you crawl or walk. Please don’t touch it
0 comment4⬆️Camp Level Up⬆️almost 2 years agoSWINGS PLEASE!
We love swings. We don't have space for swings at home and schools no longer have swings on playgrounds. Having enough swings for little kids, big kids and accessible options is important.

Odiebolongaalmost 2 years agoToddler Area
My 16 month and I walk to this park all the time. It's been our favourite in the neighborhood because of the toys for little ones. It would be great to have a designated toddler area and also a place to still be able to incorporate the toys. Smithson and Manchester Park also need a serious makeover! Also Shade would be great! Not a lot of shade especially in this heat so we often go early in the morning. Love the idea of a natural play area!

In order to educate the kids of the climate change and going green, have a going green corner where each community can come up with their own ideas eg. Grow their own veg; recycle plastics etc.
0 comment0Emma Gold-Uttingalmost 2 years agoPlease keep in mind that this park is LOVED by children, and parents.
My family are avid users of this park - we go multiple times a week. Please please please keep the safe play areas. We love the fact there's nothing my daughter can fall on and hurt herself. Is concrete necessary? Can we continue to promote this as a safe space, where kids can explore and play? The play structure is amazing, the ability to play with different toys that they don't have access to at home is incredible. It promotes sharing, and playing! We do not have a yard big enough for our own swing set - please maintain the swings.

Swings and climbing area are a must
