Brubacher Green is a small urban neighbourhood park that is actively used by the local community. The City is planning updates to this park to better support the function of the space for all park users. Consultants from SHIFT Landscape Architecture have been engaged to lead the redevelopment of this park including conceptual design, final design, and taking the project through to construction completion.

Through the summer of 2021, the design team engaged with the public to understand how the park serves the community and to guide the design. As a starting point for discussion, two concepts were presented to show what was possible in the space. After hearing feedback in person and online, and looking at what is needed to bring the park up to current standards, a final, refined concept has been developed.

Below, we are excited to reveal the final concept for Brubacher Green. Please review the plan along with an overview video, below. More information can also be found through the links on this page, including timelines for next steps, additional documents, and a summary of engagement input.

  • Update on Brubacher Green construction

Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Linkedin Email this link

We would like to express our sincere regret for the delay in the reconstruction of Brubacher Green. We recognize that many of you are feeling frustrated. We are committed to providing and maintaining quality park space for our residents, and we understand the impact this delay may have on those who were looking forward to using the park this summer.

We understand that these delays may be disappointing, but we are confident that the upgrades will benefit the community in the long-term. The extra time and effort will result in an improved park space that will be enjoyed for years to come. The upgrades include replacing playground equipment, adding accessibility upgrades, and a new bicycle rack. The new play equipment will provide various play experiences for children of all ages, while the accessibility upgrades will make the park more inclusive for all.

We are doing everything possible to complete the park as soon as possible. We will continue to provide updates on the progress and will announce a new opening date as soon as it is available.

Find parks and amenities near you

We understand caregivers and children miss a nearby space to play and hope other neighbouring park amenities can be used in the meantime. Here is a list of some parks and open spaces nearby and approximate distances to them.

    500m - 1 km distance (10-15 min. walk):

    • Civic Centre Park
    • Knollwood Park
    • Weber Park
    • Gordon Green

2-5 km distance (20-30 min. walk):

    • Iron horse Trail
    • Victoria Park
    • Stanley Park Conservation Area
    • Springwood Park

You can also discover parks and amenities in your neighbourhood using the City of Kitchener Parks story map. If you get a pop up asking you to sign in to ArcGIS, please click ‘Cancel’. It is not necessary to sign in to view the content.

  • Construction delayed

Unfortunately, the construction of Brubacher Green has been delayed. The project was scheduled to be completed by the end of 2022. It is now expected to be complete by summer 2023.

The delay is due to unforeseen circumstances that have arisen during the construction process. We understand that this news may be disappointing to those who were looking forward to using the park. However, we are confident that the extra time and effort will result in improved park space that will be enjoyed for years to come. This park's improvements include replacing playground equipment, accessibility upgrades, and a new bicycle rack. The new play equipment will provide various play experiences for children of all ages.

We appreciate your understanding and patience. We will continue to provide updates on the progress and will announce a new opening date as soon as it is available.

We have updated the home page for the project. If you are looking for information that was up here previously, you can find it below:

Brubacher Green is a small urban neighbourhood park that is actively used by the local community. The City is planning updates to this park to better support use of the space while introducing new creative play opportunities. Consultants from SHIFT Landscape Architecture have been engaged to lead the redevelopment of this park including conceptual design, final design, and taking the project through to construction completion.

The design team wants to gain an understanding from you – the community – about the park. As a starting point for discussion, the team has put together two concepts showing what is possible in the space.

We’d love to hear what’s most important to you. Shape the future of Brubacher Green by sharing your thoughts and feedback on each concept using the survey and “Ideas” board below!

Have a question? We know people are tired of virtual meetings but are perhaps not yet comfortable with in person events, so we're doing this consultation a different way. From August 16 to 20 we will host an online forum right here on this page. The project team will be closely monitoring this forum during business hours that week, answering your questions in real time. Visit this page anytime that week to ask questions, make comments and learn more about the Brubacher Green project.
