Help Bring Trees Back to Downtown Elmira!
Arthur Street in Elmira was once lined with large, mature trees that provided shade for residents as they walked between local businesses and eateries. Unfortunately, the Emerald Ash Borer devastated the tree canopy, leading to their removal.
In collaboration with TWEEC, WEAC, Trees for Woolwich, the Elmira BIA, and engaged community members, the Township has developed a plan to reintroduce 30 trees to the downtown corridor. This investment will restore vital canopy cover, help mitigate extreme heat, and deliver the many environmental, economic, and health benefits that trees provide.
The Township has applied for funding through FCM’s Growing Canada’s Community Canopies grant program. If successful, the grant would contribute $100,000 toward the project, covering approximately half of the total cost. Community donations will help fund the remaining portion and bring this important downtown tree canopy project to life.
Every contribution helps. If you are able, please consider making a donation or sharing this opportunity with others in the community.
