We’re keeping the natural feel of the play area to stay true to the park’s vision as an “urban oasis”, a place where people can play, learn and connect with nature in the heart of the city.

The existing play features, installed in 2014, were part of the Waterloo Park Plan (2009), which called for interactive and educational play spaces, water features in key locations and spaces that reflect the park’s natural beauty.

Natural play areas support that vision by using elements like sand, water and wood to create open spaces that are engaging for a wide range of ages. They encourage creativity, support physical development and give meaningful opportunities to explore and interact with nature.
