Update on tree plans at Francis Green

September 14, 2026

During the severe thunderstorm on September 2, 2026, two trees at Francis Green were uprooted and had to be removed for safety reasons.

One of these trees was the mature tree that had been planned for retention in the final park design. Because of the storm damage, none of the existing trees on the site can now be kept.

While this is disappointing, the park renewal project will include new trees throughout the park. These plantings will help restore shade, strengthen the park's natural character, and support the long-term health and sustainability of the urban forest.

The overall vision for Francis Green has not changed. The renewed park will continue to focus on greenery, shade, and a welcoming natural environment, reflecting feedback received from the community.

Construction remains on schedule and is expected to begin later this fall.
