Heidelberg Park Revitalization: A Fresh Look for a Beloved Community Space!
Exciting changes are coming to Heidelberg Park—and we want you to be part of it! As part of our revitalization efforts, we’re creating a more welcoming, active, and accessible space for everyone to enjoy.
We're excited to share a tentative vision for the revitalization of Heidelberg Park, which includes potential upgrades to the ball diamond, improvements to the trail system, enhancements to the multi-use court, and much more. But this is just the beginning—we want your input to help shape the future of this beloved community space!
This initial scope of work has been thoughtfully informed by the recently completed Parks and Recreation Master Plan, which outlines key priorities for recreation and green space across Woolwich. The plan considered a variety of important factors, including current amenities, sports field usage, community demographics, and emerging needs. Now, we're reaching out to you—the residents of Heidelberg—to help ensure this project truly reflects how you use the park and what you value most in a shared outdoor space.
The current ball diamond has seen lots of action over the years, but it’s time for a refresh! According to our Parks and Recreation Master Plan, the Township is well equipped with A-rated ball diamonds (fully fenced, lit). But we know how much the neighbourhood kids (and grown-ups!) love a good pick-up game, and there is still a use for B-rated diamonds for the young one; and hence, our plans are to convert the diamond into a B-rated diamond (partially fenced).
That’s why we’re planning to keep the fun alive with some exciting updates! We'll be replacing the backstop, baseline fencing, and seating to give the diamond a fresh new look while keeping it perfect for casual and organized youth games. We’ll also remove the outfield fencing and lighting to make room for a beautiful new trail loop through the park, and because of the age of the lighting. Bring your gloves and keep the community games going strong!
A newly refreshed multi-use court - cleaned, re-lined, and ready for action! Whether is pickleball, tennis, basketball, or your favourite game, the updated surface and fresh pavement marking are set for play.
Lastly, get ready to hit the path. A brand new stone dust loop trail is being proposed for your park - perfect for walking the dog, jogging, cycling, or just enjoying the outdoors. This scenic trail will wind its way around the park, creating a fun and easy way to stay active or soak up some nature. Lace up your sneakers - your next adventure starts right here!

Summary of Proposed Upgrades:
🌳 A new stone dust walking trail loop for peaceful strolls or energetic jogs, connecting various amenities throughout the park (community centre, multi-use court, pavilion, playground, ball diamond)
🏀 Replaced basketball nets to bring the bounce back to the court
🎾 A refreshed multi-use court surface, cleaned, lined, and ready for pickleball, tennis, basketball, and more!
⚾ A more casual, neighbourhood B-rated ball diamond with new fencing—perfect for pickup games and organized youth games
💡 Removal of light towers and netting to open up and beautify the park, and provide greater accessibility to various amenities throughout the park (lighting to remain on the multi-use court)
