What We Heard: Montgomery Park Sport Courts

3 October 2025

Thank you to everyone who joined us online and in person to share your ideas for Montgomery Park! We began engagement in July by meeting with the Eastwood Neighbourhood Association to learn about community needs and share early design concepts. In August, we hosted two engagement sessions at the park and gathered additional feedback online. Your input was thoughtful and lively — and it will directly shape the final court design.

A special thank you to the creative community members who submitted their own design ideas. Your contributions helped us think more broadly and inclusively about how these courts can serve everyone.

We’ll present the final design to the Eastwood Neighbourhood Association of Kitchener (ENAK) in mid-October, plus share it online and at the park. Here's a quick summary of what we heard:

Court Use

  • Courts are busy daily with tennis, pickleball, and basketball
  • Pickleball is growing, but residents want to keep tennis and basketball too
  • Many asked to prioritize access for local kids and families

Parking and safety

  • Mixed views on adding a parking lot
  • Concerns about kids crossing streets safely near Brentwood
  • Suggestions for crosswalks, stop signs, and speed bumps

Design and maintenance

  • Requests for more trees, flowers, and wind protection
  • Preference for seating and shade outside play areas
  • Support for multi-use courts with shared lines and adjustable nets
  • Concerns about court conditions, vandalism, and garbage
  • Desire to protect green space and reduce environmental impact

Thank You!

We’re grateful to everyone who participated and helped shape the future of Montgomery Park. Your feedback has been essential in creating a design that reflects community needs and values.
