Woolwich Receives Increased HAF Funding

2 April 2026

Woolwich Township has successfully completed the second annual reporting period for the Housing Accelerator Fund (HAF) and has received the third installment of $1,936,185.55 from the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC).

This represents an increase from previous installments of $1,681,185.55 and reflects the Township’s acceptance of two additional initiatives, as well as increased housing unit targets under the program.

This funding continues to support key housing initiatives aimed at increasing the supply of housing in Woolwich, including simplifying the approval process for accessory dwelling units, developing mixed use design guidelines, and facilitating affordable housing projects through expedited review and dedicated support for community housing developers.

Through the second reporting period, the Township completed five additional initiatives, bringing the total to 9. With the addition of two new initiatives, the Township is now advancing 12 initiatives, with three remaining.

New Initiatives:

Promote Missing Middle Housing and Increased Lot Density
Review best practices, consult stakeholders, and bring forward zoning amendments to enable missing middle housing and increased lot density.

Affordable Housing Policy
Develop and adopt an affordable housing policy, establish a reserve fund, and implement the policy through developer engagement and public information updates.

The Township has also rebounded from a slower first year of unit production and is now back on track to meet, and potentially exceed, its overall housing target.

The Township appreciates the continued contributions of all stakeholders and remains committed to advancing these initiatives, supporting housing development, and working toward the third annual HAF reporting period in March 2027.
