We appreciate the understanding and cooperation we have received throughout this major renewal of King Street.

Our contractor is planning to have work wrapped up by the end of next week, with the possibility of minor traffic signal work to continue through to the end of December. On-street parking is anticipated to start re-opening from Dover Street towards Lowther Street next week.

A person is stationed at Westminster Drive to provide pedestrian help while crossing King Street during the commute to and from school. Help crossing this intersection will be available until the new traffic signals are operational.

Progress since last Update:

· Curbs and asphalt are complete in both stages 1 and 2.

· Temporary asphalt has been placed on the sidewalks in preparation for winter shut-down.

Upcoming work over the next week:

· Traffic signal work has started and will continue for the next couple weeks

· Traffic is scheduled to be moved to the centre of King Street, with on-street parking will be reinstated shortly after.

Reminder: Garbage collection will be returning to regular pick-ups within the construction zone next week. A notice will be delivered to all properties reminding everyone of the normal collection guidelines.

Our contractor is working hard to wrap up for the winter shut-down. On-street parking is anticipated to start re-opening from Dover Street towards Lowther Street in the next couple of weeks. We appreciate the understanding and cooperation we have received throughout this major renewal of King Street.

A person is stationed at Westminster Drive to provide pedestrian help while crossing King Street during the commute to and from school. Help crossing this intersection will be available until the new traffic signals are operational. Traffic signal installation will begin in the next few weeks.

Progress since last Update:

· Water service connections to properties in Stage 2 along with sanitary service replacement is now complete.

· The road in Stage 2 has been excavated.

· Most of the road gravel has been placed in Stage 2 and the road is ready for curb.

Upcoming work over the next couple of weeks:

· Curb will be placed in Stages 1 and 2.

· Paving is scheduled for next week in both Stages 1 and 2.

· Crews will be working behind the curbs late next week preparing sidewalks and crosswalks for winter shut-down.

· Traffic signal work will begin in the next couple weeks following asphalt starting at Dover Street intersection, working towards Lowther Street.

· Traffic is scheduled to be moved back to the centre of King Street, and on-street parking will be allowed shortly after that.

Even with this early snowfall, our contractor is working hard to wrap up for the end of November and reopen the on-street parking lanes. We appreciate the understanding and cooperation we have received throughout this major renewal of King Street.

· Storm sewer and watermain (main pipe only) installation is complete in Stage 2.

· Watermain commissioning and testing is complete in Stage 2.

Upcoming work over the next couple of weeks:

· Water service connections to properties in Stage 2 along with sanitary service replacement will continue over the next week. Once all water service connections are completed (by end of this week), the blue temporary watermain along the edge of the roadway will be removed.

· The roadway in Stage 2 will be prepared for curbs and pavement over the next week.

· Curb is anticipated in Stage 1 for the end of next week, with asphalt anticipated the following week.

One lane of traffic in each direction will be maintained during construction. For safety reasons, on-street parking on King Street will not be permitted within the construction zone.

At the same time, the temporary watermain (blue pipe along the edge of the roadway), will be removed.

· Water service connections have been completed to all properties in Stage 1, and have been switched onto the permanent watermain.

· The watermain has been connected to the existing system in Stage 1.

· The temporary watermain has been shut down and removed from Stage 1.

· Excavation and placement of road gravel in Stage 1 has started.

· Asphalt has been removed from Stage 2.

· The old wood railway ties and concrete are being removed from Stage 2.

· Watermain installation in Stage 2 has started.

Upcoming work over the next couple of weeks:

· Watermain installation will continue in Stage 2 between Westminster and east of Lowther Street, including the installation of water services.

· Sanitary services will be replaced in Stage 2.

· Following watermain installation, the road will be prepared for curbs and pavement.

Progress since last Update:

· Traffic in Stage 2 between Westminster Drive and east of Lowther Street has moved to the north side of the street.

· The new watermain from Dover Street to Argyle Street has been tested and approved for use.

· The new watermain has been connected to the city’s water system.

· Properties between Dover Street and Argyle are being switched from the temporary water system onto the new (permanent) watermain.

· Removals on the south side of King Street between Westminster and Lowther have started this week. This includes the removal of the pavement, curbs, and old rail-ties found under the pavement.

Upcoming work over the next couple of weeks:

· Complete water service connections to all properties in Stage 1.

· Begin watermain installation, including services to property line will start next week in Stage 2 between Westminster and east of Lowther Street, followed by watermain testing.

· Following watermain installation, the road will be prepared for curbs and pavement.

Currently access to Argyle Street, Westminster Drive, Church Street and Lowther Street between King Street and Queenston Road is blocked at King Street due to the drop from the old road surface to the new road surface. Crews need to remove the asphalt along with the rail ties and concrete under the old road before reopening these streets. We anticipate that this will be complete within 3 days (weather permitting). These side streets will remain open except for brief times when crews are digging across them to finish their work.

It is anticipated that all the underground work will be done in early November, following this, crews will be working on completing curbs, asphalt, and preparing the space behind sidewalks for winter shut down. At the same time, the temporary watermain (blue pipe along the edge of the roadway), will be removed.

· Temporary asphalt sidewalks will be placed next week on the north side of King Street.

· Traffic in Stage 2 between Westminster Drive and east of Lowther Street is anticipated to be moved to the north side of the street the first week of October.

· Milling and removals on the south side of King in Stage 2, between Westminster Drive and east of Lowther Street during the first week of October.

· Crews are preparing the roadway in Stage 2 for curb, and it is expected that curb will be poured between Westminster Drive and Lowther Street by the end of next week, with asphalt being placed the following week.

· Crews will continue removals on the south side of King Street between Westminster Drive and Dover Street, including removal of railway ties found under the asphalt.

· Watermain installation in Stage 1 has begun and will continue next week.

Traffic is expected to flip to the north side of King Street between Westminster Drive and Dover Street by the end of August, so that crews can begin removal of the old asphalt on the south side of King Street in Stage 1. One lane of traffic in each direction will be maintained during construction. For safety reasons, on-street parking on King Street will not be permitted within the construction zone.

The new school year is quickly approaching, and we recognize the importance of safety with the return of students crossing King Street. Beginning in September there will be a person stationed at Westminster Drive to provide pedestrian help while crossing King Street during the commute to school in the morning and from school in the afternoon. Help with crossing at this intersection will be available until the new traffic signals are operational.

Progress since last Update:

· Storm sewer main line installation has continued in Stage 2

· Asphalt and curb have been placed in Stage 1 between Dover Street to almost Westminster Drive

Upcoming work over the next couple of weeks:

· Sanitary and water sewer service installation working west from Lowther Street in Stage 2 to continue for approximately 2 weeks

· Temporary lighting installation in Stage 1 to be installed

· Traffic in Stage 1 will be flipped onto the new road surface and the road surface will be removed on the remaining side

· Crews will begin preparing the roadway to place curbs in Stage 2 within the next 3 weeks.
