Construction begins on the new Lions Park splash pad

October 22, 2026

We're excited to share that construction of the new splash pad in Lions Park is about to begin. As work gets underway, residents may notice some temporary changes to park access and amenities.

Construction is expected to take place from October 2026 until the end of May 2027.

What to expect during construction

During construction, some park amenities and areas may be temporarily closed or difficult to access. We will work to minimize disruptions and provide updates as the project progresses.

Visitors may also notice temporary changes to parking and access within the park. The asphalt trail near the construction area will be closed when work is taking place across the trail and reopened when it is safe to do so. Please watch for onsite signage and project updates for the latest information.

Winter rink update

Construction may affect winter rink operations this season. City staff and community partners are exploring options to provide skating opportunities for residents and will share updates as plans are confirmed.

In the meantime, residents can continue to enjoy indoor skating at local arenas.

McLennan Park splash pad

Many residents have asked about the existing splash pad in McLennan Park.

The current plan is to complete and open the new Lions Park splash pad first. Once the new splash pad is operating, the City will determine the timing for permanently removing the McLennan Park splash pad.

Signs will be installed in spring 2027 to remind residents that the McLennan Park splash pad is permanently closed and awaiting removal.
