Centre for Cold Regions and Water Science at Wilfrid Laurier University 65 Lodge St., Waterloo, www.wlu.ca/research/water, Built 2015, Design: Parkin Architects Ltd., Toronto, Home to the Laurier – Government of Northwest Territories Partnership, the Centre (CCRWS) is at the forefront of research into some of the most pressing and challenging issues facing water in the natural environment, with an added focus on northern and cold-climate locations. The award winning building incorporates light-filled, energy efficient, environmentally sustainable design. Research conducted here includes water resource studies ranging from the Grand River Watershed to Canada’s Arctic. The labs and state-of-the-art analytical equipment are used to assess climate change and forest fire impacts, to conduct aquatic environment studies, and to study emerging contaminants, among other pressing issues. Guided tours will include research labs and the rooftop greenhouse.
