Thank you to everyone for your continued patience and support during this construction season and through the entire construction period for the King Street project. Construction is now essentially complete with the exception of some minor outstanding items and deficiencies to be corrected in the next couple of weeks. Short-term lane occupancy may be needed when completing the remaining work. Two-way traffic will be maintained at all times with flagging.

Outstanding work over the next couple of weeks:

• Completing repairs and clean up behind the curb along King Street;
• Completing remaining landscaping restoration, placing topsoil and grass behind the curb along King Street;
• Installing remaining asphalt driveways and trees;
• Replacement of 3 hydro poles at Lowther Street intersection.

A final update will be posted once the project is fully completed.

Work completed to date:

• Landscaping and driveway installation between Dolph Street and Montrose Street;
• Sidewalk and landscaping between Montrose Street and Bishop Street.

Work to be completed over the next 2 weeks:

• Surface asphalt paving within the project limits, Eagle Street to Bishop Street;
• Pavement markings on King Street;
• General site clean up.

Surface asphalt paving is scheduled to be completed overnight between the hours of 7pm and 7am, and is anticipated to take up to three (3) nights. Work is anticipated to start the evening of Wednesday July 28 and complete on Friday Jul 30. All work is weather dependent. During the work, King Street will be closed to traffic in stages and please do NOT park along King Street within paving zone.

The south side of Bishop Street at the King Street intersection is to reopen by the end of Friday, July 9th (with weather permits).

Work completed to date:

• All underground works within project limits;
• Sidewalks on west side of Montrose Street generally completed;
• Bishop Street intersection.

Work to be completed over the next 2 weeks:

• Continue driveway installation and landscaping between Dolph Street and Montrose Street;
• Continue sidewalk installation and landscaping behind sidewalk between Montrose Street and Bishop Street.

Surface paving is currently planned near the end of July (depending on weather and crew availability). This will require short term road closures in stages. More information will be provided in advance of the surface paving dates.

The south side of Bishop Street at the King Street intersection is closed for underground work with reopening planned on or about the Week of July 5th. Sidewalks and pedestrian access at the intersection will continue to be maintained. View detour map here.

• Street lighting poles installation between Dolph Street and Lowther Street.

Work to be completed over the next 2 weeks:

• Underground work at south side of Bishop and King Street intersection;
• Continue sidewalk installation on south side of King Street between Dolph Street and Lowther Street, and between Bishop Street and Montrose Street;
• Landscaping behind new sidewalk once sidewalk installed.

The north side of Bishop Street and King Street intersection is re-opened to vehicular traffic with minor sidewalk and surface restoration work remaining. Pedestrian access at the intersection will continue to be maintained.

Work completed since last update:

• Roadway excavation on north side of King Street between Chestnut Street and Bishop Street;
• Sidewalk installation on south side of King Street between Dolph Street and Lowther Street, and between Union Street and Chestnut Street;
• Landscaping behind newly-installed sidewalks;
• Curb placement on north side of King Street between Chesnut Street and Bishop Street;
• Asphalt paving on north side of King Street between Chesnut Street and Bishop Street.

Work to be completed over the next 2 weeks:

• Continue sidewalk installation on south side of King Street between Dolph Street and Lowther Street, and between Union Street and Chestnut Street;
• Landscaping behind sidewalks once sidewalk installed;
• Underground work at south side of Bishop Street and King Street intersection. This work is anticipated to start on or about June 14 and will last approximate 3 weeks. A closure of south leg of the intersection is required to complete this work. View detour map here.

The underground work at the intersection of King Street and Bishop Street is continuing. It is anticipated that the north side intersection closure at Bishop Street will re-open to vehicular traffic near the end of May. In order to complete the underground work at the intersection of King Street and Bishop Street, the north side of the intersection has been closed to vehicular traffic on Bishop Street since April 27 while sidewalks and pedestrian access at the intersection have been maintained. This closure is anticipated to take approximately 3 weeks. View detour map here

• Sidewalk on north side of King Street East;
• Installation of tree pits in Phase 3;
• Installation of Preston Town Centre Sign.

Works over the next 2 weeks:

• Watermain connection at Bishop intersection. Public notices will be distributed to all impacted properties in advance once more detailed date and time become available;
• Sanitary sewer and service installation between Chestnut Street and Bishop Street;
• Complete sidewalk installation on west side of Chestnut Street;
• Electrical conduit work from Montrose Street to Lowther Street.

The Region’s contractor, Navacon is going to start construction works at the intersection of King Street and Bishop Street on or about April 26, 2021 and this construction is anticipated to last approximately three (3) weeks.

In order to complete the underground work, it will be required to close the north side of the intersection to vehicular traffic on Bishop Street. Sidewalks and pedestrian access at the intersection will be maintained. View detour map here

Localized construction at the south side of the intersection will be required later this construction season and further short term closures will be required there. Further correspondence with more details will be provided in advance of this particular work commencing.

The Region’s Contractor, Navacon Construction, will be starting work on King Street on or about Monday March 22, 2021 for this year’s construction season!

Initially the Contractor will be working on boulevard surface works in Stage 3 (between Lowther Street and Bishop Street) behind the curbs with two-way traffic maintained. There may be a need for periodic flagging of traffic, so please expect some minor delays.

The Contractor will then be moving forward with Stage 4 construction (between Chestnut Street and Bishop Street). An update will be posted to the EngageWR website prior to Stage 4 construction commencement with more information on the upcoming work and planned traffic control.
